I love a good "About Me" page. Every time I click on a website, the about section is almost always what I click on. If you're like me, then you'll love this page!
Me leaning on a tree?!
If you couldn't tell from the homepage, my name is Chuong Nguyen (he/him). I am currently a novice in UCLA's Teacher Education Program! I graduated from UC Berkeley in May 2024 with a B.A. in Physics and a minor in CalTeach. Currently, I am student teaching physics at STEM Academy of Hollywood.
Me at the Cal Esports Community Center
Outside of my academics, I love playing video games. My favorite genre of video games is fighting games. These include games like Street Fighter or Guilty Gear. When I have enough free time, I like to compete in them, occasionally. In my last competition, I achieved 7th place out of 31, which I feel is a pretty impressive feat for myself. Only the top three won money, though, so hopefully I’ll earn some cash soon. Other than fighting games, I really enjoy playing games with my friends, which will range anywhere between League of Legends to Minecraft. I love single player games, as well, and I am quite adept in all forms of video games.
I am currently playing through Metaphor: ReFantazio, a JRPG developed by Atlus. It has a great story, setting, character development, and tackles serious themes in a tasteful manner. Hopefully, I'll find some time to play more soon!
Me at the UC Men's Octet 75th Reunion
When I’m not at my computer playing a game, I might be at a rehearsal. I also love singing! I am not that great, but I’ve been told repeatedly that I’m being too modest. Back in Berkeley, I started singing in an a cappella/barbershop group called the UC Men’s Octet. I made some awesome friends there and had some really cool trips, such as going down here to LA to perform at a UCLA show, as well as getting to go to Vegas to perform for the Berkeley chancellor! I also got to record an EP at a studio in San Francisco, and hopefully it will be mixed and released on platforms soon! I was also part of DeCadence A Cappella my final year, and I was in both groups simultaneously. I had a ton more fun memories with them, too.
Most recently, I've just joined Awaken A Cappella, and I performed in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA)! Yes, Pitch Perfect is real. No, I haven't watched it. Yet.
With my friends that I've made in Scouting, we try to plan camping or backpacking trips every winter or summer break where we can all see each other and get a taste of the outdoors. I love taking pictures of the stars during this time and sharing them with the world, but nothing can beat getting to see them with your own naked eye. Below are some shots that I was able to take on some of these trips. I highly recommend going outdoors when you can! I used to dislike it when I was younger, but now it's a nice break from city life.
